The 2018 Australian Medal was held at The Australian Golf Club on Saturday, 13 & Sunday, 14 January 2018. The event is played as an individual nett stroke event with the top 60 players from round 1 on Saturday, qualifying for round 2. The event is played from the Medal Course (Blue Tees) and open to players from The Australian GC, New South Wales GC, Royal Sydney GC & The Lakes GC with a handicap of 12.7 GA or better.
Players were greeted with a hot and humid day on Saturday with light North-Western winds, prime for scoring. Andrew Mather (The Australian GC – 4) led the field with a nett 68, closely followed by his playing partner Vaughan Kirkby (The Australian GC – 13) who recorded a nett 69.
60 players made the cut with scores of 79 nett *c/b or better. Sunday saw the conditions shift dramatically with strong Southerly winds and very cool temperatures for this time of year. Andrew Grzetic (The Australian GC – 3) recorded back-to-back rounds of nett 72 (144 strokes nett total) to climb the leader board and claim victory by 2 strokes over Vaughan Kirkby and Andrew Mather who both finished with 146 strokes nett. Zac Mullins (The Australian GC) won the scratch event with scores of 69 and 75 to finish 144 strokes gross for 36 holes.
